India’s economy expanded 7.8% in the first quarter, with stronger export performance supporting overall economic activity, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The growth highlights continued momentum in the Indian economy, supported by improving external demand and robust performance across key sectors. The strengthening of exports has provided additional support to economic activity amid evolving global trade conditions.

The RBI has been closely monitoring developments in domestic growth, external trade and global economic conditions. Stronger merchandise and services exports are expected to remain important for sustaining India’s growth momentum and supporting foreign-exchange earnings.

The latest growth performance also comes as Indian businesses seek to expand their presence in international markets through new trade agreements, export incentives and market diversification. Improved access to overseas markets is expected to create additional opportunities for exporters across manufacturing and services.

India has set an ambitious target of increasing its overall exports, making sustained growth in external trade an important component of the country’s broader economic strategy.

The 7.8% Q1 expansion indicates continued resilience in domestic economic activity, while the improvement in exports adds another source of growth. Businesses and policymakers will continue to watch global demand, trade policies and geopolitical developments for their potential impact on export performance in the coming quarters.
