India is approaching a significant milestone in agricultural trade, with annual food exports nearing the ₹5 lakh crore mark, according to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
Speaking at a recent industry interaction, Goyal highlighted the steady growth of India’s food exports, attributing the momentum to improved agricultural productivity, stronger global demand and government initiatives aimed at promoting value-added products in international markets.
He noted that India’s diverse food basket—including rice, marine products, spices, sugar, and processed foods—continues to find expanding markets across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. The minister emphasized that sustained policy support, better logistics infrastructure and enhanced supply chain efficiency have helped Indian exporters remain competitive globally.
Officials also pointed out that initiatives focused on boosting agricultural exports, improving quality standards and expanding market access have played a key role in driving growth. Efforts are underway to further strengthen cold chain infrastructure and streamline export procedures to support exporters.
Industry stakeholders say the steady rise in food exports reflects the increasing global demand for Indian agricultural and processed food products. With continued focus on quality, traceability and market diversification, India is expected to move closer to achieving the ₹5 lakh crore export milestone in the near future.
