India is poised to enter a new phase in global trade, driven by policy reforms, expanding export capabilities, and a shifting international economic landscape, according to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Speaking at a recent industry interaction, the minister highlighted that India is increasingly positioning itself as a reliable and competitive player in global supply chains. He emphasized that ongoing efforts to strengthen manufacturing, improve logistics infrastructure, and streamline trade processes are beginning to yield tangible results.

Piyush Goyal noted that India’s export basket is becoming more diversified, with growth seen across sectors such as engineering goods, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. He also pointed to the government’s focus on value addition and quality enhancement as key drivers of long-term export growth.

The minister underlined the importance of trade agreements in opening new markets and enhancing India’s global integration. Ongoing and proposed free trade agreements with key partners are expected to provide exporters with improved market access and reduce tariff barriers.

He further stated that India’s push towards ease of doing business, digitalization of trade processes, and development of multimodal logistics networks is helping reduce transaction costs and improve efficiency. These initiatives are aimed at making Indian exports more competitive in an increasingly challenging global environment.

Addressing concerns over current geopolitical uncertainties, including disruptions in key shipping routes, Piyush Goyal acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence in India’s ability to adapt. He noted that diversification of trade routes and markets would help mitigate risks arising from regional conflicts.

Industry stakeholders have broadly welcomed the government’s vision, while emphasizing the need for continued policy support, access to affordable credit, and stable logistics frameworks to sustain export growth.

As global trade undergoes structural shifts, India’s focus on resilience, competitiveness, and market expansion is expected to play a crucial role in shaping its next phase of economic growth.
