Konkan Railway is all set to launch India’s very first car ferry train service between Kolad (Maharashtra) and Verna (Goa).

This service will allow people to transport their private cars via train, while they travel in comfort in the attached passenger coaches, asper Pune Pulse.

The launch is perfectly timed to help ease the festive traffic rush during Ganesh Chaturthi, offering a faster, safer, and more convenient alternative to the 20–22 hour road journey.

    How Will It Work?

The car ferry train will cut the travel time down to just 12 hours.

    • Departure: 5 PM from Kolad
    • Arrival: 5 AM at Verna
    • Reporting Time: 2 PM at Kolad station

Each train will carry up to 40 vehicles, with 20 special wagons (each carrying two cars). However, the train will only operate if at least 16 vehicles are booked.

The freight charge per car is Rs 7,875 (one way). For safety, vehicles will be securely strapped and handbrakes engaged. No one is allowed to stay inside the car during the journey.

    Where Will Passengers Sit?

Travelers will have their own comfortable space:

    • 2 people per car can book seats in 3AC coaches for Rs 935 per person
    • 1 additional person can travel in the SLR coach for Rs 190
    Why It Matters

Especially during festivals like Ganeshotsav, highway traffic can be a nightmare. This service offers the comfort of rail travel while still giving you the freedom to drive your own car once you reach your destination.
