India’s exports of refined petroleum products climbed to a one-year high of 1.53 million barrels per day (mbd), driven by robust refinery operations and healthy overseas demand for transport fuels. Higher refinery utilisation enabled Indian refiners to boost supplies of diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and other petroleum products to key international markets despite persistent geopolitical and shipping challenges.

The increase in exports reflects strong throughput at major public and private refineries, which have benefited from stable crude supplies and improved processing margins. Indian refiners have continued to optimise production to capitalize on export opportunities across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading global supplier of refined fuels.

Despite the strong export performance, the sector continues to face logistical uncertainties arising from security risks in key maritime trade routes, including the Red Sea. Shipping disruptions, higher freight costs, and insurance premiums have increased transportation expenses, prompting exporters to adjust routing and delivery schedules to ensure uninterrupted supplies.

Industry analysts noted that resilient refinery operations have helped offset these external challenges, allowing India to maintain steady fuel exports while meeting domestic demand. The country’s diversified refinery network and flexible sourcing strategies have enhanced its ability to respond to fluctuations in global energy markets.

Looking ahead, India’s refined fuel exports are expected to remain supported by sustained refinery utilisation and healthy international demand. However, ongoing geopolitical tensions and shipping risks will continue to influence freight costs, voyage times, and export competitiveness in the months ahead.
