Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the remarkable growth of India’s fisheries sector while addressing the National Workshop on Seafood Exports in Visakhapatnam. The event was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan, exporters, and industry stakeholders.
Speaking at the workshop, Goyal said that India’s fisheries sector has undergone a significant transformation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, driven by a series of reforms and policy initiatives. He noted that despite global economic challenges, India’s seafood exports have reached a record high, reflecting the sector’s growing competitiveness in international markets.
The minister emphasized the vast potential of the fisheries industry in generating employment, promoting value addition, and boosting exports. He also underlined the government’s commitment to strengthening the sector through improved market access, infrastructure development, and supportive policies aimed at enhancing the livelihoods and prosperity of India’s fisherfolk.
The workshop provided a platform for interaction between policymakers, exporters, and industry representatives, with discussions focusing on opportunities and strategies to further accelerate the growth of India’s seafood exports.
