Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) handled 11,853 tonnes of cargo, with international freight accounting for the leading share of its cargo operations. The performance highlights the airport’s emerging role in strengthening Mumbai’s air cargo capacity and supporting India’s international trade connectivity.
The airport’s cargo operations are expected to provide additional handling capacity for exporters, importers, freight forwarders and logistics service providers across the Mumbai metropolitan region. International freight is particularly important for industries that depend on timely overseas deliveries, including pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, electronics, perishables and other high-value products.
NMIA is positioned to complement existing aviation infrastructure in the Mumbai region by providing additional facilities for passenger and cargo traffic. Its development is also expected to support improved connections between air freight services and road-based logistics networks, helping businesses move shipments between production centres, distribution facilities and international markets.
For Indian exporters, additional airport capacity can offer greater flexibility in cargo routing and help accommodate growing demand for international shipments. Importers may also benefit from improved access to air freight services for time-sensitive consignments and high-value goods.
As cargo volumes develop, efficient customs clearance, modern handling facilities and strong connectivity with freight forwarders will be important to maintaining service reliability.
NMIA’s reported cargo throughput signals its growing contribution to the region’s logistics infrastructure. Sustained growth will depend on airline participation, international route development and the ability to attract cargo volumes from businesses across western India.
