In a significant move to boost inland water transport in Odisha, the Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) recently held a high-level meeting with officials from the Odisha Government and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, India. The discussion focused on the development and operationalization of National Waterway-5 (NW-5) within the state.
NW-5, spanning 332 km from Talcher to Mangalagadi, connects the Dhamra-Paradip stretch, offering a strategic corridor for cargo movement and regional trade. The meeting highlighted collaborative strategies to enhance navigability, port facilities, and connectivity along the waterway, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a key hub for inland water transport.
The initiative is expected to facilitate efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly cargo transport, supporting both industrial growth and sustainable infrastructure development in the region.
