Jindal Steel has commissioned the first phase of a 25 million tonne per annum (MTPA) dry bulk cargo terminal at Paradip Port in Odisha, marking the completion of a ₹3,400 crore port infrastructure project milestone.

The Phase-I terminal, developed through its subsidiary Jindal Paradip Port Ltd (JPPL), commenced commercial operations on October 15, 2026, according to a company filing with the stock exchanges. The 12.5 MTPA facility was commissioned ahead of its scheduled deadline of October 16, 2026.

Jindal Paradip Port is developing the terminal at the Western Dock of Paradip Port under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) concession agreement with the Paradip Port Authority (PPA). The project is being implemented in two phases, each with a planned capacity of 12.5 MTPA, taking the terminal’s total handling capacity to 25 MTPA upon completion.

The commissioning of Phase I will provide Jindal Steel with dedicated, long-term access to port infrastructure to support its growing logistics requirements as the company works to expand its domestic steelmaking capacity. The terminal is expected to strengthen the movement of dry bulk cargo and support the company’s supply chain operations.

Under the concession agreement, JPPL was required to achieve the commercial operation date for Phase I within 1,095 days of the award of the concession, with October 16, 2026, set as the deadline.

The early commissioning marks a significant step in strengthening port-linked logistics infrastructure for the steel sector and enhancing cargo-handling capacity at Paradip, one of India’s key maritime gateways on the eastern coast.
