The container terminal operated by JM Baxi at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority achieved a notable operational milestone by handling 2,392 TEUs from the vessel MSC Veracruz, marking one of the terminal’s significant recent calls.
The vessel call stood out as it carried diverted Middle East transshipment cargo, reflecting the shifting dynamics in global shipping and trade routes. Despite tight turnaround timelines and the complexity associated with handling rerouted volumes, terminal teams ensured seamless execution through coordinated planning and operational efficiency.
The operation also included the timely evacuation and supply of empty containers to support India’s export sector, enabling exporters to maintain shipment schedules without disruption.
The milestone highlights the integrated efforts of teams across operations, equipment planning, yard management, and gate functions. Notably, the terminal’s women workforce played a leading role in executing the operations, demonstrating high standards of professionalism, safety, and efficiency.
JM Baxi acknowledged the support and collaboration of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, along with the port authority, in enabling smooth handling of the call.
The development underscores Tuticorin’s growing importance as a resilient and responsive node in India’s maritime logistics network amid evolving global trade conditions.
