New Branch Opens on the Eve of Vizhinjam Port’s Historic EXIM Operations Launch
Thiruvananthapuram, 17 August 2026: The Kerala Steamer Agents’ Association (KSAA) has strengthened its presence in South Kerala with the opening of its new Vizhinjam Branch Office in Thiruvananthapuram, marking an important milestone for the Association and the maritime trade community at a significant turning point in Kerala’s port-led development.
The Vizhinjam Branch Office was formally inaugurated by Mr. Varghese George, President, Kerala Steamer Agents’ Association, on Monday, 17 August 2026, at Rayyan House, Pachalloor, Thiruvananthapuram. The inauguration was held in the presence of members of the KSAA Executive Committee, Association members and representatives from the shipping, logistics and wider trade community.
The timing of the opening is particularly significant as the new branch office has commenced operations just one day before Vizhinjam International Seaport begins full-fledged Export-Import (EXIM) operations on 18 August 2026.

The commencement of EXIM operations marks a major new chapter in Vizhinjam’s maritime journey. With the port moving beyond its transshipment operations to handle direct export and import cargo, Vizhinjam is poised to emerge as a major international gateway for Kerala and the wider southern Indian hinterland.
The establishment of the KSAA Vizhinjam Branch Office at this crucial juncture reflects the Association’s commitment to being closely connected with the evolving requirements of the maritime and trade community in the region.
Supporting Vizhinjam’s Emerging Maritime Ecosystem
The new branch office will provide a dedicated platform for steamer agents, shipping lines, exporters, importers, freight forwarders, logistics companies and other stakeholders to engage more closely with the Association.
It will also facilitate closer interaction with port authorities, Customs, government departments, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders involved in vessel operations, cargo handling and trade facilitation.
With EXIM operations commencing at Vizhinjam, the role of shipping agents and associated maritime service providers is expected to become increasingly important. The KSAA branch will enable the Association to respond more effectively to the operational and regulatory requirements emerging from the growth of cargo and vessel activity at the port.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Varghese George, President, KSAA, highlighted the significance of establishing the Association’s presence in Thiruvananthapuram at a time when Vizhinjam is entering a new phase of growth.
The presence of the KSAA Executive Committee, members and representatives of the trade community at the inauguration underlined the collective interest of the maritime industry in the successful development of Vizhinjam as a major international port and logistics gateway.
A Strategic Milestone for Vizhinjam
The opening of the branch office on 17 August, just a day ahead of the commencement of EXIM operations, carries special significance for the shipping agency community.
Vizhinjam’s strategic location close to the international East-West shipping route, its deep natural draft and its ability to accommodate large container vessels have positioned the port as an important emerging maritime gateway.
The commencement of EXIM operations is expected to provide exporters and importers in Kerala and neighbouring states with enhanced opportunities for direct international connectivity, potentially reducing dependence on traditional transshipment gateways and strengthening the competitiveness of the region’s trade.
For KSAA, the establishment of the Vizhinjam branch represents a proactive step towards supporting this transformation and ensuring that the shipping agency community remains an integral part of the port’s growth story.
The opening of the Vizhinjam Branch Office is therefore not merely an expansion of KSAA’s geographical presence—it is a statement of the Association’s readiness to support Vizhinjam as it enters its next phase as a full-fledged EXIM gateway.
