The dream of expatriates for a ship service to the Gulf is becoming a reality. A private company interested in launching the service from Kochi to Dubai has begun searching for a suitable ship. Once the ship is inspected and approved, the service is expected to start soon.

Four companies had expressed interest in starting the ship service before the Kerala Maritime Board. After reviewing the letters of intent submitted by these companies, two were found eligible. One of these companies has now started looking for a suitable ship for the service.

Once the ship is brought in, the board will conduct a detailed inspection, evaluating the ship’s facilities for passengers and cargo. A report will be submitted to the government, and following this, the necessary approvals for the service will be granted. The Maritime Board is also working to expedite the licensing process from the central government. Officials are hopeful that the service could begin by the end of this year or early next year.

A passenger survey conducted by the Board months ago showed significant interest in a ship service to Dubai. Among Kerala’s ports, Kochi is the most suitable for accommodating large ships. Due to these factors, the Kochi-Dubai ship service will begin in the first phase.
The advantages of the service include reduced travel costs and the ability to transport more cargo.
