Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML) is likely to get three more electric hybrid boats soon, as Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) is in the final process of delivering the boats.

CSL received order for manufacturing 23 electric hybrid boats for KWML. Of these, 17 boats have already been delivered, and three of the remaining are expected to be delivered in the coming days.

Currently, KWML is operating boats on five routes connecting different regions of the city, including the newly opened High Court-Fort Kochi route.

With the delivery of three more boats, frequency of the service will be increased on different routes. This will help avoid long queues at terminals during peak hours.

KWML has already reduced the interval between services on Fort Kochi route to 15 minutes. As boats are available, it can even operate unscheduled services while experiencing heavy rush.

It is learnt that there is poor response for South Chittoor service, mainly due to poor last-mile connectivity and lack of services at regular intervals.

Only four services are currently operating on this route.
