    Maersk has announced revised port surcharges for shipments to and from South Africa, with the updated charges set to take effect from August. The adjustment reflects changing operating conditions at South African ports and forms part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to recover rising logistics and port-related costs.

    The revised surcharges will apply to selected cargo movements, with rates varying according to trade lane, cargo type and container size. Customers have been advised to review the updated tariff structure when planning shipments to avoid unexpected transportation costs.

    South African ports have faced operational challenges in recent years, including congestion, infrastructure constraints and weather-related disruptions, prompting carriers to periodically revise pricing to maintain service reliability and schedule integrity.

    Exporters, importers and freight forwarders trading with South Africa are expected to factor the revised surcharges into their logistics planning and freight budgets. The changes may have a modest impact on overall shipping costs for businesses moving cargo through the country’s major ports.
