The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) recorded 557,681 TEU in April 2024, compared to 693,087 TEU last year.
This reflected a decrease of 19.54 per cent.
MAWANI, however, recorded an increase in cargo throughput tonnage by 8.58 per cent during April 2024, handling 27.1 tonnes, compared to 24.96 tonnes in the same month of 2023.
Transshipment containers also decreased by 53.49 per cent, reaching 123,194 TEU, compared to 264,870 TEU in 2023.
In the same vein, the statistics for exported containers recorded an increase of 3.72 per cent, reaching 216,504 TEU, compared to 208,741 TEU in the same period of 2023, while the statistics for imported containers decreased by 0.68 per cent, reaching 217,983 TEU, compared to 219,476 TEU last year.
The total general cargo reached 839,368 tonnes, solid bulk cargo reached 4,1 tonnes, and liquid bulk cargo reached 16.1 tonnes.
Furthermore, maritime traffic featured a decrease of 8.27 per cent, reaching 910 ships compared to 992 ships in 2023.
In March 2024, MAWANI launched the Ports Community System (PCS) under the umbrella of the unified logistics window ‘Logistics’.
More recently, MAWANI announced the first container shipment via railway from Jubail Commercial Port to Riyadh Dry Port.
