Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has marked a significant milestone in its offshore wind business with the successful launch of TSS Challenger, a new Service Operation Vessel (SOV) being built in Vietnam for Ta San Shang Marine (TSSM), a joint venture between MOL and Ta Tong Marine.
The launch ceremony was attended by the MOL Vietnam team, celebrating the progress of the vessel, which is purpose-built to support the construction, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind farms.
TSS Challenger is part of the CSOV 9020 series and is equipped with advanced dynamic positioning technology, motion-compensated personnel transfer systems, modern onboard accommodation, and an environmentally conscious design. Measuring approximately 88 metres in length, the vessel can accommodate up to 120 personnel, providing safe and efficient support for offshore wind projects throughout their operational lifecycle.
The vessel is being constructed through a collaboration between Dutch shipbuilder Damen and Vietnam’s Ha Long Shipbuilding, combining international expertise with regional shipbuilding capabilities.
MOL said the offshore wind sector represents a key area of growth for the company as it continues to expand its maritime services in support of the global energy transition. Service Operation Vessels are expected to play an increasingly important role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of offshore wind farms as renewable energy capacity continues to expand worldwide.
