Pilbara Ports has surpassed the 800 million-tonne mark in annual cargo throughput, achieving a record-breaking year and reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest bulk export port authorities. The milestone reflects sustained global demand for Western Australia’s mineral resources, particularly iron ore, which continues to dominate the region’s export portfolio.

The record performance was driven by strong shipments from major mining companies and efficient port operations across Pilbara Ports’ network, including Port Hedland, Dampier, Ashburton, and Varanus Island. Continued investments in infrastructure, digital technologies, and operational improvements enabled the port authority to manage higher cargo volumes while maintaining safe and reliable services.

Iron ore remained the principal commodity handled, accounting for the majority of exports to key markets across Asia. The port network also facilitated shipments of salt, liquefied natural gas (LNG), condensate, and other bulk commodities, supporting Australia’s position as a leading global supplier of natural resources.

Pilbara Ports attributed the achievement to close collaboration with customers, shipping operators, and government agencies, alongside ongoing initiatives to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and capacity. Infrastructure upgrades and modernization projects are expected to further strengthen the ports’ ability to accommodate growing trade volumes in the coming years.

The record throughput underscores the strategic importance of Pilbara Ports to Australia’s mining sector and global supply chains. As international demand for iron ore and energy resources remains resilient, the port authority is well positioned to support future export growth while continuing to invest in resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible port operations.
