    MoPSW Secretary Reviews Key Inland Water Transport Projects in Assam

    In a bid to accelerate the growth of Inland Water Transport (IWT) in the North East, Shri T K Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, visited key projects along National Waterway-2 (River Brahmaputra) in Assam.

    During his visit, Shri Ramachandran inspected the Bogibeel terminal and other critical infrastructure projects to assess the progress being made under the IWT sector. The review focused on enhancing connectivity, cargo movement, and passenger facilities along the Brahmaputra, which is considered a vital lifeline for the region’s trade and economic development.

    The Ministry has been actively working to strengthen waterway infrastructure in Assam with an aim to provide sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation options while boosting regional trade and employment.

    Officials accompanying the Secretary highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize terminals, improve navigational aids, and create seamless integration with road and rail networks for efficient multimodal logistics in the North East.
