Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has launched the Afungi Shuttle, a dedicated feeder service designed to support logistics for the Mozambique LNG project, reinforcing the carrier’s presence in East Africa and its commitment to serving large-scale energy developments in the region.
The new shuttle service will connect Pemba Port with the Afungi Peninsula in northern Mozambique, providing a reliable maritime link for the transportation of project cargo, containers, construction materials, equipment, and essential supplies required for the development and operation of the Mozambique LNG project. The service is expected to improve the efficiency of cargo movements while reducing reliance on road transport in a region with limited logistics infrastructure.
The Afungi Peninsula is home to one of Africa’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) developments, led by an international consortium. As construction activities gather pace following the gradual resumption of the project, demand for dependable logistics solutions has increased significantly. MSC’s dedicated shuttle is intended to ensure regular and secure cargo deliveries, supporting the complex supply chain required for one of the continent’s most significant energy investments.
By introducing the Afungi Shuttle, MSC aims to provide greater schedule reliability and operational flexibility for project stakeholders, including engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors, suppliers, and logistics providers. The service is expected to facilitate the timely movement of critical cargo while enhancing connectivity between offshore supply chains and onshore project sites.
