MSC has introduced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo moving from North Europe to Canada and Mexico, as the carrier adjusts freight charges on the trade amid changing market conditions.

The surcharge is aimed at supporting the carrier’s operating costs during periods of stronger cargo demand and tighter vessel capacity. Peak season charges are typically introduced by shipping lines to manage additional costs and capacity pressures during high-demand periods.

The new PSS will apply to eligible shipments moving from North European origins to destinations in Canada and Mexico, with the applicable charge and effective date determined by MSC’s tariff announcement.

The move comes as container shipping lines continue to adjust pricing across major trade lanes in response to fluctuating demand, vessel availability, port conditions and global supply-chain disruptions.

For exporters and importers, the additional surcharge could increase overall transportation costs on the affected routes. Shippers are advised to check MSC’s latest tariff details and factor the PSS into freight budgets for upcoming shipments.

MSC’s latest pricing adjustment highlights continued efforts by carriers to manage capacity and maintain freight-rate levels amid evolving conditions in the North Atlantic container shipping market.
