Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for shipments from the Far East to Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean destinations.

The revised rates apply to cargo originating from all Far East ports, including Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia. They will take effect from 1 September 2026 and remain valid through 14 September 2026.

Under the new tariff, the all-in FAK rate for a 20-foot dry container is $4,750 to West Africa/Nigeria, $4,800 to South Africa and $4,750 to East Africa/Mombasa. Rates for Mozambique and Somalia/Berbera are set at $5,850, while shipments to Port Louis in the Indian Ocean are priced at $4,750.

For 40-foot dry/high-cube containers, rates range from $5,100 for West Africa base ports to $8,000 for Somalia/Berbera. Mozambique is priced at $7,550, while East Africa/Mombasa stands at $6,050 and Port Louis at $5,650.

MSC said the announced FAK rates remain subject to applicable surcharges and local charges at both ends. The new pricing comes as carriers continue to adjust rates across Africa trades amid changing demand and operating conditions.
