The Nigerian government has launched the Nigeria-East/Southern Africa Air Cargo Corridor to expand export access to markets in Kenya, Uganda, and South Africa, CGTN Africa reported. The initiative, part of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework , aims to reduce export costs and improve delivery efficiency. It will operate from Abuja and Lagos.
The cargo corridor offers discounted air freight rates of 50 to 75 percent, significantly lowering logistics costs for Nigerian exporters. The first shipment included textiles, fashion items, cosmetics, and agro-processed products.
In an official statement, the government described the move as a demonstration of its support for Nigerian businesses, helping them export with lower risk and faster turnaround times. Authorities affirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s role in the AfCFTA and leading the drive for deeper economic integration across Africa.
