The Ocean Alliance is set to resume a port call at Tacoma on its HTW service, restoring the US Pacific Northwest port to the service network.
The reinstated Tacoma call will provide shippers with renewed access to the Port of Tacoma and strengthen the service’s coverage of the Pacific Northwest. The change forms part of ongoing adjustments by major container shipping alliances to port rotations and vessel deployment.
Restoring Tacoma is expected to improve connectivity for importers and exporters using the port, particularly cargo moving between Asia and the US Pacific Northwest. It will also give customers an additional routing option for containerised shipments through the region.
The Ocean Alliance brings together CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, Evergreen and OOCL. Its members regularly adjust service rotations in response to cargo demand, vessel availability , network capacity and operational requirements.
The return of Tacoma to the HTW rotation highlights the continued importance of Pacific Northwest gateways within trans-Pacific container shipping networks. The revised rotation will determine transit times and available connections for cargo routed through Tacoma.
For shippers, the restored call could provide greater flexibility in planning Asia–Pacific Northwest movements and accessing inland markets served through the Tacoma gateway.
