Paradip Port Authority (PPA), the state’s lone major port, has achieved a historic milestone by handling 75 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in record time during the current fiscal year 2025-26. This marks the fastest 75 MMT throughput ever recorded by any major port in India.
As of September 26, PPA registered a 5.03% growth in cargo volume compared to the same period last year, reaching the milestone 10 days ahead of the previous fiscal.
Key cargo segments drove the surge:
Crude oil: 17.22 MMT, up 19.34%
Coastal thermal coal: 22.51 MMT, up 4.3%
Flux materials: 2.97 MMT, up 19%
PPA Chairman P.L. Haranadh lauded the achievement, attributing it to “robust strategies, a dedicated workforce, and strong stakeholder support.” He extended gratitude to employees, user industries, trade unions, PPP operators, and service providers for their role in the record performance.
“This milestone exemplifies growth, sustainability, and a brighter future for Paradip Port,” Haranadh said, adding that the port is confident of surpassing its cargo target for FY 2025-26 with ongoing operational efficiencies and infrastructure upgrades.
The achievement further cements Paradip Port’s position as a leading maritime gateway on India’s eastern coast.
