Peru is stepping up efforts to expand its blueberry exports across Asia, with India, Thailand and Singapore emerging as important long-term markets for the country’s fresh fruit industry. The strategy is aimed at reducing dependence on established destinations while tapping growing consumption in Southeast Asia and India.

At the recent Asia Fruit Logistica, representatives of Euroandes Foods Import, the commercial arm of Peruvian grower and exporter Danper, highlighted the company’s plans to increase blueberry sales in Asian markets. The company is using a bimodal logistics model, combining maritime transport with subsequent air freight to destinations including India, Thailand and Singapore. The approach is intended to improve delivery efficiency and preserve fruit quality.

Logistics remains a key challenge. Exporters said reducing maritime transit times from South America would make Peruvian blueberries more accessible in Asian markets and help stimulate consumption. As demand develops, buyers are also expected to impose higher requirements for quality and consistency, particularly in markets such as India and Singapore.

Peru is already the world’s leading blueberry exporter. Its exports reached 373,514 tonnes worth $2.457 billion in 2025, with shipments increasing 14.6% in volume and 8.2% in value. India was among the emerging destinations for Peruvian blueberries.

The expansion comes as Peru’s current 2026/27 blueberry season records strong growth. By week 33, exports had reached 66,737 tonnes, up 65% from the same period of the previous season. While the United States remains the largest destination, accounting for 43% of shipments, exporters are increasingly looking toward other markets to support future growth.

For Peru, developing direct relationships with customers in India, Thailand and Singapore could help build more stable Asian demand. At the same time, improving cold-chain and air-sea logistics will be critical to ensuring that blueberries maintain their quality during the long journey from South America to Asian consumers.
