Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday highlighted India’s rapid strides in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, underscoring the country’s growing energy strength and self-reliance, while addressing India Energy Week 2026.
The Prime Minister noted that India’s refining capacity has reached 260 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), making the country the world’s second-largest refiner. He added that further expansion is already underway, with capacity set to rise to 300 MMTPA, reinforcing India’s position as a global energy powerhouse.
Emphasising the rising demand for LNG in India’s energy mix, Shri Modi pointed to the parallel growth in indigenous LNG transportation vessels, reflecting the nation’s strong momentum towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in the energy sector. He said these developments are critical to ensuring energy security, affordability, and sustainability amid increasing domestic and global demand.
Aligned with this vision, Petronet LNG Limited reiterated its commitment to supporting India’s LNG growth story by continuously strengthening infrastructure and operational capabilities. The company said it remains focused on enabling a secure, sustainable, and future-ready energy ecosystem, contributing to India’s long-term energy transition and economic growth.
India Energy Week 2026 continues to serve as a key platform bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and global stakeholders to shape the future of India’s energy landscape.
