In a major push to India’s maritime and infrastructure development, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹34,200 crore at the grand “Samudra Se Samriddhi” event held in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
The event, aimed at accelerating India’s growth in the maritime sector, witnessed the presence of several key leaders and dignitaries, including Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri C.R. Patil, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Labour & Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Ports Shri Shantanu Thakur, and senior government officials.
Deendayal Port Authority Projects Unveiled
As part of the event, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for transformative projects worth ₹2,400 crore under the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla. The projects include:

Development of a Multi-Purpose Cargo Berth off Tuna-Tekra

Establishment of a Green Bio-Methanol Plant

Installation of Static Anti-Drone Technology for port surveillance and security

Expansion of road infrastructure, construction of oil jetties, and other civil works
These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance cargo handling efficiency and ensure environmental sustainability at one of India’s key ports.
Mega Port Terminal to Add 135+ MMTPA Capacity
On the sidelines of the event, DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh briefed the Prime Minister about the upcoming Mega Port Terminal at Kandla. With a proposed 6 km waterfront and an additional cargo handling capacity of over 135 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA), the terminal is poised to be a game-changer in India’s maritime logistics, reinforcing the country’s position in global trade.
Live Screening and Regional Celebrations
A live screening of the “Samudra Se Samriddhi” ceremony was held at the Administrative Office Building in Gandhidham, attended by Shri Vinodbhai Chavda, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Kutch), Smt. Maltiben Maheshwari, Hon’ble MLA (Gandhidham), senior port officials, and a large gathering of employees.

The projects inaugurated today reflect the Government of India’s steadfast commitment to transforming the maritime sector by blending modernization with sustainability.
