The 11,356 TEU CMA CGM Cassiopeia has arrived at Port Houston’s Bayport and conducted 7,327 moves over two days, averaging roughly 31 moves per hour.
This milestone is projected to result in 15,000 TEU vessel calls in Houston later this year.
During his report to the Port Commission, Chief Executive Officer Charlie Jenkins described Port Houston’s testimony at a recent Texas House Transportation Committee meeting, which provided an opportunity to review state funding from the previous legislative session, the state’s return on investment, and the status of ongoing projects.
The Texas Department of Transportation Maritime Infrastructure Program awarded $36 million to Port Houston for the Wharfs 4 and 5 project at Barbours Cut Terminal. The project is well advanced and scheduled to be completed in January 2026.
In September, Charlie Jenkins formally accepted the post of CEO of Port Houston succeeding long-time Executive Director Roger Guenther.
More recently, Port Houston moved 3.12 million TEUs so far this year, a 10 per cent increase over the same period in 2023.
