The Port of Los Angeles has closed a section of Avalon Boulevard to facilitate a major bridge construction project aimed at improving freight mobility and long-term port access. The temporary closure is part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades designed to modernize one of the busiest container gateways in the United States.

Port officials said the works involve roadway and bridge improvements that will enhance truck movement, traffic safety and cargo connectivity between terminals, nearby industrial zones and regional transport networks. Detours and alternate access routes have been implemented to minimize disruption for port users and local commuters.

The project forms part of the port’s broader capital investment strategy focused on easing congestion, strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting future cargo growth. Improved road links are expected to reduce bottlenecks and increase efficiency for drayage operators serving marine terminals.

Authorities advised motorists, logistics companies and residents to plan for possible delays during the closure period. Once completed, the upgraded bridge infrastructure is expected to deliver smoother freight flows and better access across the port complex.
