The Port of Montreal has begun marine construction work for a new container terminal designed to handle up to 1.15 million TEUs annually, marking a major step forward in the expansion of its cargo-handling capacity.
The marine works form part of the terminal development project, which is intended to strengthen Montreal’s position as a key gateway for containerised trade in eastern Canada. The new facility will increase the port’s ability to accommodate growing cargo volumes and support international supply chains.
Construction activities in the marine area will include the development of infrastructure required for vessel berthing and container operations. The project is expected to involve significant investment in port infrastructure and associated logistics facilities.
Once completed, the 1.15 million-TEU terminal will provide additional capacity for importers and exporters, while improving the port’s ability to handle larger volumes of containerised cargo.
The project comes as ports across North America continue to invest in additional capacity and infrastructure to accommodate changing trade patterns, larger vessels and rising demand for efficient container-handling services.
