VOC Port has achieved a major milestone in renewable energy logistics, handling 343 windmill blades in July 2025 — a 90.56 per cent increase from the 180 blades managed in July 2024.

The surge reflects the growing momentum of India’s wind energy sector and underscores the Port’s emergence as a key hub for renewable energy cargo. The rising demand for larger, more efficient wind turbines, driven by government-backed clean energy targets and private sector investment in green infrastructure, is fueling this growth.

Port officials attributed the sharp rise to improved infrastructure, efficient cargo-handling systems, and specialized facilities for managing over-dimensional and project cargo such as windmill blades. Investments in advanced handling equipment, skilled manpower, and dedicated storage areas have further streamlined the movement of these complex consignments.

“The remarkable year-on-year growth reflects not only the rising demand for wind energy but also the Port’s proven capability to support India’s renewable energy ambitions by handling specialized consignments with speed and precision,” said Sushath Kumar Purohit, Chairman, VOC Port.

Industry observers view the steady increase in windmill blade shipments as a strong indicator of India’s clean energy transition. With the nation targeting 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, ports and logistics infrastructure are expected to play a pivotal role in enabling the supply chain for wind and solar projects.

Experts believe VOC Port’s growing expertise in project cargo handling could make it a preferred gateway for renewable energy components, further strengthening India’s role in the global clean energy supply chain.
