Port operations and industrial activity across Tamil Nadu remained largely normal on Thursday despite a nationwide strike call by central trade unions.
Major ports, including Chennai Port Authority and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, continued to function without significant disruption. Cargo handling, container movement, vessel operations, and gate activities proceeded as scheduled, with only minimal impact reported in isolated areas.
Port officials confirmed that essential and routine operations were maintained efficiently, ensuring that vessel berthing, loading and unloading activities, and hinterland connectivity remained unaffected. Transport movement in and around port areas also remained steady, preventing congestion at terminals and logistics parks.
Industrial clusters in and around Chennai, Coimbatore, and Tiruppur reported normal production levels. Manufacturing units operated as usual, and supply chains remained intact, with no major bottlenecks in cargo evacuation or raw material inflow.
Industry representatives noted that proactive coordination between port authorities, terminal operators, labour representatives, and logistics stakeholders ensured smooth operations throughout the day.
The situation underscored the resilience of Tamil Nadu’s port and industrial ecosystem, with stakeholders working collectively to maintain operational continuity despite the strike call.
