The Port of Rotterdam has reported that a power outage affecting the area from Brielle to Hoek van Holland has had no impact on shipping operations thus far. According to port authorities, radar stations and the Hoek van Holland Traffic Centre are currently operating on emergency power, ensuring that shipping traffic remains fully functional.
In a statement, the Port of Rotterdam emphasised that, while the outage could potentially disrupt shipping if it continues for an extended period—by delaying the departure of ships from affected companies and causing incoming vessels to wait offshore—there have been no such disruptions reported at this time.
The situation is being closely monitored to manage any potential impacts on port operations.
The cause of the outage is unknown, however, it appears that the problem is linked to the distribution station in Europoort.
Dutch rail infrastructure manager ProRail said that its technicians have found an alternative method to restore electricity to the port railway line. After an interruption of an hour and a half, electric freight train operations between Maasvlakte and Kijfhoek will resume. The cause of the outage is not yet known, ProRail said in an update on X.
Update: 12:55 The Port of Rotterdam announced that the power has been restored to all customers and that the cause of the outage is still being investigated.
