In a significant step towards digital transformation, South Central Railway (SCR) has launched a pilot of India’s first dedicated rail parcel mobile application under its Hyderabad Division, aiming to streamline parcel booking and tracking services for customers.
The Hyderabad Division has been selected for the initial rollout, where the app will allow users to book parcel space, calculate freight charges, make digital payments, and track consignments in real time. The initiative is designed to reduce paperwork, improve transparency, and enhance convenience for traders, small businesses, and individual customers relying on rail logistics.
Railway officials said the digital platform is expected to cut down processing time at parcel offices and minimise manual intervention. Customers will receive automated notifications on booking confirmation, dispatch status, and delivery updates, helping improve reliability and planning for time-sensitive shipments.
The pilot project will be closely monitored over the coming months, with feedback from users and parcel handling staff incorporated before a wider rollout across other divisions of SCR. If successful, the app could serve as a model for replication across other railway zones in India.
The move aligns with Indian Railways’ broader push to modernise freight and parcel operations through technology adoption, aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and customer satisfaction in the logistics segment.
