As part of the 12 Years of Naya Bharat Nirman initiative and Maritime Reform Utsav celebrations, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has highlighted a key milestone in strengthening the country’s maritime infrastructure and energy logistics capabilities.
SCI enhanced its LPG transportation capacity through the induction of two Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), Sahyadri and Shivalik, each with a cargo-carrying capacity of 82,000 cubic metres (CBM). The addition of these vessels has significantly strengthened the company’s ability to transport liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable movement of critical energy cargo to India.
With the induction of these VLGCs, SCI now operates a fleet of three VLGCs and a total fleet strength of 58 vessels. The expansion contributes to increasing India’s shipping capacity and supports the objectives outlined under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
The development underscores SCI’s role in strengthening India’s maritime backbone, enhancing energy security, and supporting the nation’s growing demand for reliable energy transportation infrastructure.
