In a landmark move for India’s cold-chain logistics and dairy distribution network, a special freight train carrying Amul milk has successfully reached Jammu & Kashmir from Gujarat for the first time. The milestone marks a significant advancement in rail-based refrigerated transport, strengthening long-distance supply links between western India and the northern Himalayan region.

The dedicated service is expected to improve the timely delivery of fresh dairy products while reducing dependence on road transport over long and weather-sensitive routes. By leveraging the railway network, the initiative offers faster transit, lower logistics costs, and improved product stability for temperature-sensitive cargo.

Industry observers see the development as a major boost for India’s dairy supply chain, demonstrating how rail freight can support movement of perishables across vast distances. It also highlights growing collaboration between food producers and logistics agencies to modernize agricultural distribution systems.

The new route is likely to enhance milk availability in Jammu & Kashmir, particularly during peak demand periods, while opening fresh opportunities for efficient movement of other food and consumer goods through specialized freight services.
