    The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) has successfully conducted the speed trial of the track between New Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and New Kanpur.

    “A special purpose inspection railcar successfully conducted the trial run on Friday at a speed of 100 kmph. The rail car left DDUN at 9am and reached New Kanpur station at 13.05pm, covering 337 km in four hours five minutes at an average speed of 82.53 kmph,” said an official of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL).

    The sectional speed of New DDU-New Shujatpur (210 km) was fit for movement of goods trains at a speed of 75 kmph. To Along with this, the newly constructed Naini Bridge was also inspected by a DFCCIL team and the inspection railcar passed through this bridge at a speed of 100 kmph. Also, the foundation stone of the running room lobby was laid in New Kanpur.

    The longest bridge (1034m) of EDFC over river Yamuna and at Prayagraj was built by DFCCIL. It has 17 spans, 34 girders, and a double line track. It is built to connect the eastern part of India with the northern part allowing movement of heavy goods, minerals and safe, smooth train operations.

    It started in 2016 with the survey for the construction of the two-way bridge and was built with the help of the Cofferdam method and caisson technique (foundation of 18 wells of 9 m diameter with a depth of 45-50 m). Also, the height of its pillars ranged from 12.4 m to 16.4 m. All the 34 girders weighing 9520 metric tons are indigenous, making it a remarkable piece of structure. “It is a futuristic bridge designed keeping in view the potential of surface and waterway transport for cargo movement connecting the rivers, making India a logistics hub and creating Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” said an official of DFCCIL.

    Its optimal use will effectively achieve the objective of reducing logistics costs, added the official.

    Further, a trial run for increasing the sectional speed from 75kmph to 100kmph between New Khatauli to New Pilkhani (Up and down line) was also successfully carried out last week.
