Swire Shipping will increase its Emergency Bunker Surcharge (EBS) across several international and Pacific trade routes, with the revised rates applying to shipments covered by Bills of Lading dated on or after November 15, 2026.
Under the revised tariff, shipments from major global regions to Pacific destinations will attract an EBS of US$535 per 20-foot container and US$1,070 per 40-foot container. Reefer container rates will be US$642 for 20-foot units and US$1,284 for 40-foot units. The breakbulk and LCL surcharge will be US$26.75 per revenue tonne (RT).
For shipments moving from Pacific origins to global regions, the revised surcharge will be US$267.50 for 20-foot containers and US$535 for 40-foot containers. Reefer rates will be US$321 and US$642, respectively, while breakbulk and LCL cargo will attract US$13.38 per RT.
The same higher rates applicable to global-to-Pacific movements will also apply to shipments from Australia and New Zealand to Pacific destinations. Movements in the reverse direction, as well as intra-Pacific Island trades, will attract the lower surcharge rates.
The global trade coverage includes North Asia, Greater China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, Scandinavia, Northern Europe, the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, Africa and the US West Coast.
Pacific destinations covered under the revised surcharge include Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, South Pacific islands, Timor-Leste, New Zealand and the Australian ports of Townsville and Darwin.
The South Pacific region, as defined by Swire Shipping, includes American Samoa, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Caledonia, Saipan, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
The revised Emergency Bunker Surcharge will be levied in addition to the prevailing March and first-quarter 2026 Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF).
