Madurai-based Thiagarajar Mills Private Ltd, through its group company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Germany’s Euro Textiles GmbH & Co. KG to establish a new textile manufacturing enterprise at Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu, with a proposed investment of ₹100 crore.

The proposed venture aims to strengthen India’s export-oriented textile industry by leveraging advanced manufacturing technology and expanding access to international markets, according to a company statement.

The facility will manufacture premium-quality 100 per cent cotton jacquard fabrics and other value-added textile products for export markets. Commercial production is targeted to commence within eight months.

The project envisages the installation of 48 advanced air-jet looms equipped with Jacquard technology, supported by modern warping and sizing facilities to enable efficient production of high-quality fabrics.

In the first phase, the facility is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of 3 million metres. A second phase is envisaged to double the capacity to 6 million metres annually, enabling the venture to scale up operations in line with export demand.

The second phase will focus on value-added technical textiles and niche patented textile fabrics, targeting opportunities in the growing non-conventional textiles segment, the company said.

The proposed investment comes amid significant opportunities to expand India’s presence in the European textile market. According to figures cited in the company statement, India’s fabric exports to the European Union stood at approximately $0.08 billion in 2025, compared with EU fabric imports valued at $2.38 billion during the year.

The new venture is expected to support the development of advanced textile manufacturing capabilities in Tamil Nadu while creating opportunities to serve international markets with premium and specialised fabric products.
