Ukraine’s “Nova Poshta” airline, “SuperNova,” has been granted permission to conduct international air cargo flights to and from Ukraine starting November 1. This marks the first instance since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022 that a civilian airline has been authorized to operate.
Ukraine had closed its airspace to civilian flights on February 24, 2022, due to security risks.
The permission, granted by the State Aviation Service of Ukraine through order No. 789 dated October 21, 2024, allows SuperNova Airlines to begin operations on the Lviv–Prague–Lviv and Kyiv–Prague–Kyiv routes, with plans for seven weekly flights in both directions.
SuperNova Airlines, a subsidiary of Nova Global, part of the Nova group, was founded on October 1, 2021, and received its Ukrainian operator’s certificate on January 6, 2023. The airline completed its first flight on a Boeing 737-800SF under the Ukrainian flag on September 18, 2024, between European cities.
Nova Poshta’s press service stated that SuperNova has secured technical permission to be ready for operations as soon as Ukraine’s airspace fully reopens.
