European Cargo, the UK-based operator of the world’s only converted A340-600F freighters , has announced a new partnership with Unilode Aviation Solutions to implement a digitalised unit load device (ULD) pooling management solution across its global cargo operations.

This collaboration highlights European Cargo’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and advancing sustainability in air freight.

By integrating Unilode’s sustainability-driven operations and digital tracking technologies, European Cargo will gain real-time visibility, improved ULD utilisation, and accurate sustainability reporting.

These capabilities will be important in helping the airline measure and demonstrate tangible progress toward its decarbonisation goals.

According to the press release, joining Unilode’s global ULD network also provides European Cargo with access to on-demand ULDs and comprehensive maintenance services for its fleet.

This transition is expected to deliver economic and operational benefits, including reduced logistics, repair, and repositioning costs, while simultaneously improving operational agility, a critical factor for an airline focused on dynamic cargo and charter operations.

Mohammed Akhlaq, Chief Commercial Officer at Unilode Aviation Solutions said, “This partnership will provide European Cargo with the focus, agility, and flexibility needed to support its growth strategy through our pooling concept.

“By leveraging our shared ULD management solutions, European Cargo can enhance and accelerate its expansion while staying aligned with its sustainability and digital transformation goals,” he further added.

Unilode Aviation Solutions owns and manages the world’s largest outsourced fleet of over 200,000 ULDs and operates the largest global network for the maintenance and repair of ULDs and galley carts.

European Cargo joins a growing list of leading airlines, including American Airlines, Riyadh Air, Thai Airways, and Royal Brunei, that have recently adopted Unilode’s end-to-end ULD management and pooling solution, which now spans more than 500 airports worldwide.
