In a significant achievement reflecting its growing strength in industrial cargo handling, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority recorded an impressive 137.40% Year-on-Year growth in Caustic Soda Lye cargo handling during April 2026 compared to the corresponding period in April 2025.

The remarkable surge in cargo volumes underscores the port’s expanding role in facilitating chemical and industrial trade while reaffirming its operational efficiency, infrastructure capability, and commitment toward cargo diversification.

Caustic Soda Lye, a critical industrial chemical widely used in sectors such as textiles, paper, alumina, detergents, chemicals, and water treatment, continues to emerge as an important cargo segment for the port. The substantial increase in handling volumes reflects growing industry confidence in the port’s logistics ecosystem, connectivity, and streamlined cargo operations.

The achievement also highlights the port’s ability to cater to specialized industrial cargo through efficient berth management, safe handling practices, and coordinated logistics support. The steady growth in liquid and chemical cargo movement is expected to further strengthen the port’s position as a key maritime gateway for South India’s industrial and manufacturing sectors.

With sustained focus on improving operational productivity, enhancing multimodal connectivity, and attracting diversified cargo streams, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority continues to reinforce its role in supporting India’s growing EXIM trade and industrial supply chains.

Port officials expressed confidence that the positive growth momentum across specialized cargo categories would continue in the coming months, contributing to higher throughput and broader trade expansion.
