V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority commemorated National Maritime Day with a series of events celebrating the enduring spirit of the maritime community and honouring the vital role of seafarers in global trade.
The day began with a solemn tribute at the Sailors’ Memorial, where port officials and stakeholders paid homage to seafarers for their invaluable contributions and unwavering dedication to the nation’s maritime sector.
The celebrations featured the hoisting of the National Maritime Day flag, followed by a ceremonial sail past, symbolising maritime strength and unity. Addresses delivered during the event highlighted India’s rich maritime legacy and the sector’s growing importance in driving economic progress.
The programme was presided over by Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairperson of VOCPA, with Soman Mani attending as the Chief Guest. A felicitation ceremony formed a key highlight, recognising individuals and stakeholders for their contributions to the maritime industry.
The event also brought together members of the port community through cultural programmes and interactive activities, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork among maritime professionals.
