Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has crossed the 80 million tonnes (MT) cargo handling mark in just 327 days of the current financial year, setting a new operational benchmark and underscoring sustained growth momentum at the major east coast gateway.

The achievement reflects robust performance across key cargo segments, including iron ore, coal, crude oil, petroleum products, containers, and fertilizers. Port officials said improved operational efficiency, faster vessel turnaround times, and enhanced mechanisation at berths contributed significantly to the record milestone.

VPA has been focusing on infrastructure upgrades, digitalisation of port processes, and closer coordination with trade stakeholders to optimise cargo movement. Strategic initiatives such as deeper drafts, capacity augmentation, and multimodal connectivity through rail and road links have also strengthened the port’s competitiveness.

The milestone comes ahead of schedule compared to previous years, indicating steady cargo growth and increased trust from exporters and importers. Industry observers note that consistent performance at Visakhapatnam reinforces its position as one of India’s leading major ports on the eastern seaboard.

Port authorities expressed confidence that the momentum will continue through the remaining months of the financial year, with efforts underway to further boost cargo volumes and enhance service reliability.
