    VOC Port marked a key milestone with the arrival of its first clinker consignment under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Ambuja Cement Limited, Gujarat, on 19 November 2025. The agreement, part of the Port’s Minimum Guaranteed Tonnage (MGT)–based Incentive Scheme for coastal clinker movement, ensures an annual coastal cargo volume of 2,50,000 metric tonnes.

    On 24 November 2025, the vessel MV Lima Trader berthed at NCB-II, carrying 56,440 metric tonnes of coastal clinker from Sanghi Port, Gujarat. The vessel was consigned by M/s Seaport Shipping as the ship agent, while M/s Seaport Logistics is undertaking stevedoring operations. The cargo will be transported by road to Ambuja Cement’s grinding unit at Mela Arasadi, Tuticorin, located approximately 24 km from the Port, where it will be processed into cement.

    Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOC Port Authority, described the shipment as a significant step in promoting sustainable and cost-efficient coastal transportation. He reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision to boost coastal shipping as an eco-friendly logistics mode. He further added that several more clinker vessels under the MoU are expected to call at VOC Port in the coming months, enhancing cargo throughput and strengthening the partnership between the Port and the cement industry.
