V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever single-day cargo handling of 2,17,332 metric tonnes (MT) on September 5, 2026.

The latest achievement surpassed the port’s previous all-time daily cargo handling record of 2,16,631 MT, registered on February 18, 2026.

The milestone assumes added significance as it was achieved on the 155th birth anniversary of V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, the freedom fighter and maritime pioneer after whom the port is named.

The record reflects the port’s growing operational efficiency, cargo-handling capabilities and the coordinated efforts of its workforce and stakeholders. The achievement also highlights the port’s increasing role in supporting cargo movement and strengthening the maritime trade infrastructure of southern India.

The V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority congratulated its entire team and expressed sincere appreciation to its stakeholders for their continued support and contribution towards achieving the new record.

The latest performance marks another significant milestone in the port’s operational journey and underscores its commitment to achieving higher levels of efficiency and service excellence.
