The Bengal govt has started work to develop ‘buying houses’ in different districts to facilitate MSME sector exports, state minister for industry, commerce and enterprises Shashi Panja said on Tuesday.
‘Buying house’ is a place where local manufacturers or suppliers can meet buyers to export their products.
Panja said: “The state MSME department is working on the development of ‘buying houses’ in different parts of the state so that our traders and manufacturers can export their goods to foreign countries.
Be it the garment cluster in Metiabruz, leather cluster in Bantala or gems and jewellery cluster in Howrah’s Domjur, the ‘buying houses’ will act as facilitation centres to boost exports for the MSME sector.”
According to the plan, the state would procure the goods of local MSME traders at the ‘buying houses’ and ship the consignments overseas.
Panja, who addressed a business conclave during the CII Exim Conference on Tuesday, pointed out how the state was taking a slew of export-oriented measures to boost the economy.
Bengal has the largest warehousing capacity in the eastern region as well as the second-largest cold storage facilities in the country. “Still, we are improving the state’s logistics infrastructure. Work on the four industrial corridors like Dankuni-Kalyani, Tajpur port – Raghunathpur, Dankuni-Jhargram and Durgapur-Cooch Behar is progressing and we are looking at creation of land banks by recovering plots of closed PSUs near the corridors,” Panja said.
