Taiwan-based Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has named YM Weight, a new 15,500-TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel, marking another step in the carrier’s fleet modernisation and decarbonisation efforts.
The vessel is equipped with a high-pressure LNG dual-fuel engine, enabling it to operate on LNG and supporting Yang Ming’s efforts to reduce emissions and improve the environmental performance of its container fleet.
A key feature of YM Weight is that it is Yang Ming’s first self-managed LNG-fuelled vessel. The ship is led by Captain Ming-Yeong Pan, who holds Taiwan’s first Advanced IGF Code Certificate, highlighting the company’s emphasis on specialised crew training, LNG-fuel handling expertise and operational safety.
The vessel will be deployed on Yang Ming’s MS2 service, strengthening connectivity between major hubs across Asia, the Mediterranean and North America, including the ports of Long Beach and Oakland.
Yang Ming said the addition of YM Weight reflects its continued focus on building a more sustainable fleet while maintaining reliable global liner connectivity.
The naming ceremony was attended by Mrs. Chiu-Lien Lin, wife of Kuo-Shian Lin, Administrative Deputy Minister of Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Chairman of CR Classification Society, who served as the vessel’s Godmother.
