    The VO Chidambaranar port in Thoothukudi handled 41.72 million tonnes (MT) of cargo in the year 2024-25 as compared to 41.40 MT in the previous year – up 0.77 per cent. Imports were at 31.91 MT; exports at 9.69 MT and transshipment cargo was 0.12 MT. The port handled 7,95,222 TEUs, a 6.41 per cent growth over the previous year, stated the release.

    The VOC Port Authority achieved the highest ever revenue of ₹1,209 crore in FY 2024-25. This was a 8 per cent increase over the previous year’s revenue of ₹1,122 crore. Net surplus after tax increased by 16 per cent to ₹535 crore, added the release.

    Some of the projects that the port authority plans to undertake include construction of an off-shore wind terminal at a cost of ₹700 crore and construction of Berth-10 for handling bulk cargo ₹89 crore.
