The Johor Port Authority has notified the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) that the oil leak at Langsat Terminal has stopped, and clean-up efforts are ongoing.
On 3 April at 7:10 pm, an oil patch was spotted in the eastern Johor Strait off Pulau Ubin’s northeastern coast.
The MPA deployed three patrol craft and an oil spill response craft to survey the area and implement mitigation efforts.
As of 4 April, beach clean-ups at Changi and Pasir Ris were in progress, with completion expected in the coming days.
Affected areas remain cordoned off. Oil sheen has also been reported at several fish farms along the East Johor Strait, and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is working with farms on mitigation measures, including providing absorbent pads.
SFA is testing seafood from affected farms and imports as a precaution.
The National Parks Board (NParks) and research partners conducted visual assessments of biodiversity-sensitive areas near the oil patches this morning, with post-impact surveys underway.
No wildlife impact has been observed at Chek Jawa Wetlands, Changi Beach Park, or Pasir Ris Park. Preventive measures, including booms, have been deployed at coastal drains and key sites like Chek Jawa and fish farms in the East Johor Strait.
The national water agency PUB has also placed containment booms at Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs as a precaution, to remain in place pending further assessment.
Recently, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and the Maritime and MPA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation.
